Daily Bible Nugget #76, John 5:24
The Nugget:
Joh 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
My Comment:
Jesus emphasized what He says here by introducing it with the words "Verily, verily." His solemn promise is that those who continue to hear His word, and continue to believe on Him that sent Jesus, now have everlasting life. Those who meet these criteria shall not come into condemnation or judgment, but have already been passed from death to life. This has been one of my favorite verses because it furnishes a firm basis for assurance of salvation. Many religious faiths contradict this verse, but I prefer to go by what the Bible itself actually says. Most certainly Jesus promised that we can absolutely know for sure that we are saved in this life. We do not have to wait until death or the resurrection to find out.
