The Nugget: Act 16:30  And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? Act 16:31  And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. My Comment: This may be one of the most important questions in the Bible: "What must I do to be saved?" The answer is equally clear: "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved." I have found that one of the best ways to learn what it means to "believe on the Lord Jesus Christ" is to read through the New Testament carefully and repeatedly. The Gospel of John may be the clearest book in the New Testament about what it means to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. It would be a very good idea to read the Gospel of John repeatedly until you understand its message. Jesus alerted us that there are two roads:  the broad way and the narrow way. Jesus told us to enter by the narrow way. He said many follow the broad way, but only a few find the narrow way that leads to eternal life:

Mat 7:13  Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Mat 7:14  Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.  (KJV)

Mat 7:13 "Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. Mat 7:14 For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few. (ESV)

Mat 7:13 Go in through the narrow gate. The gate to destruction is wide, and the road that leads there is easy to follow. A lot of people go through that gate. Mat 7:14 But the gate to life is very narrow. The road that leads there is so hard to follow that only a few people find it. (CEV)

What makes the "narrow way" "so hard to follow? I suspect that people are sidetracked by many distractions in this life (Luke 8:14.  1 John 2:16). I suspect that many who should know these Bible truths are not teaching them so that many are given no instruction or wrong instructions about this essential subject. This may explain why Jesus said that very few find the true way to eternal life:

Luke 13:23  Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them,

Matthew 20:16  So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.

If we remember that Jesus was speaking to religious people in his day who thought they had it right, these statements of Jesus ought to jolt us into reality:

Mat 7:21  Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Mat 7:22  Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? Mat 7:23  And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. (KJV)

These facts, directly from the Bible, should motivate us to study the Bible more accurately and faithfully to be sure we are on the right path!
